Sadly, Kristy died from complications due to Covid-19 on June 19, 2021.  As an attorney, she passionately fought for the rights of parents and children. Kristy's goal was to bring her love for the profession and her commitment to serve families as a judge.

QUALIFICATIONS

 

I am a Board Certified Family Law Specialist, finishing up my 14th year of practice.  In addition to Family Law, I handle abuse, neglect, dependency, guardianships, special proceedings, Estates, and domestic violence cases.  I am the Legal Aid Attorney for Domestic Violence victims in Wayne County, and teach the Legal Certificate classes with Wayne Community College.  I have argued cases in District and Superior Court, as well as at the North Carolina Court of Appeals.  Born and raised in Wayne County, I attended the University of Iowa, which is ranked in the top 30 law schools in the nation by US News.  I have been licensed to practice law since 2007.

I began my legal career in Wilmington with a small Family Law firm.  During my time here, I briefed and argued two cases before the North Carolina Court of Appeals.

In 2015, I returned to my hometown of Goldsboro and became the Family Law Attorney with Everett Womble.  In addition to my private practice, I handle court appointed work and estate planning, and volunteer with Communities Supporting Schools.  I developed, from scratch, the Legal Certificate courses at Wayne Community College.  I obtained my Board Certification in Family Law in 2016.

College of Law

I completed my law degree at the University of Iowa. I was the Senior Articles Editor (Symposium) for The Journal of Gender, Race, & Justice.  I spend two years as a Research Assistant for the Academic Achievement Program.  I received my Juris Doctor  on May 11, 2007, and passed the North Carolina Bar in August of 2007.
